Introduction / History

Ⅰ . Established Note and Goals

According to the Regulations of University, NUTN was permitted by the Minister of Education to establish the department of music and master programs. The goal is for the study of all musical phenomena, and emphasis on the performance practice.

The Music Department provides the opportunities for undergraduate students to found basic professional knowledge and skills, and to train them as musicians or music educators. It also offers graduate students to focus on music pedagogy and to develop their academic research abilities.

Ⅱ . Faculty / Staff

The Department currently has 10 full-time faculty members, including 6 professors, 3 associate professors, and 1 lecturers. All of them have either Master or Doctoral degrees of Music from universities around the nation and abroad.

Ⅲ . Course Requirements for Undergraduate Students

Length of study: 4 years

Credit hours:

148 credit hours (with teacher-certificate courses);

128 credit hours (without teacher-certificate courses)

Ⅳ . Graduate Study

The Master Program was founded in 2002, and it concentrates on the educational theory and strategy of music, to meet the need for music educators. The masters program is divided into three focuses, Music Education, Piano Pedagogy, and Vocal Pedagogy. The program requires 32 credit hours and a thesis.

Ⅴ . Doctoral program

The Doctoral Program will be offered in the near future.
